At Rida, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Rida is a stimulating and nurturing environment, which helps the children develop into confident and independent learners.

Children will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development:

  1. Communication and language;
  2. Physical development;
  3. Personal, social and emotional development.
  4. Literacy;
  5. Mathematics;
  6. Understanding the world;
  7. Expressive arts and design.

These 7 areas are used to plan learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting the children shall ensure that activities are suited to each child’s unique needs.

Communication & Language

We support and extend the children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking, and listening. Children are provided with opportunities and encouragement to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves, and speaking and listening in a range of situations.

Physical Development

We promote the children’s physical development through a variety of opportunities to be active and to improve their coordination. The children are supported in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food and lifestyle.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

We support each child’s emotional wellbeing, ensuring that they are confident to take part in new activities and work with others. We provide the children with support that lead them to develop a positive sense of themselves, respect for others, social skills and a positive inclination towards learning.

Literacy

We follow the Jolly Phonics programme, whilst also enjoying the learning process through a variety of games and activities. The children have access to a wide range of reading materials.

Mathematics

The children are supported in developing their understanding of mathematics in a broad range of contexts through which they can explore, enjoy, learn, practice, and talk about their developing understanding of numbers, shape, space, and measure. They are provided with a wide range of opportunities to practice their mathematical skills, and to gain confidence in using mathematical language and concepts.

Understanding of the World

We support the children in developing their knowledge and understanding in order to help them make sense of a growing and technological world. We encourage them to take an active part in the community through walks and by supporting a variety of charities. We promote British values within our setting.

Expressive Arts & Design

Children are encouraged to explore and share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through a variety of mediums.

Children learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoor and outside.

The 3 Characteristics of Effective Learning are:

  1. Playing and Exploring (engagement, having a go)
  2. Active Learning (motivation, keeping trying)

3. Creating and Thinking Critically (thinking, having own ideas, choosing ways to do)

Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural Development

Alongside the 7 areas of learning we are consistently developing the childrens’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural learning. This is evident throughout the day and will be seen through our themes and activities. We encourage parents you to get involved at home with these areas by promoting tolerance, independence and extra-curricular interests, as well as developing them as active British Citizens who will become positive Islamic role models for the community.
